Attitude and Intention to Seek Professional Psychological Help among Nursing Students

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the level of attitude and intention to seek professional psychological help and the relationship between attitude and intention to seek professional psychological help in nursing college students.

Methods: A sample of 169 nursing students was obtained via online survey. Participants completed self-report questionnaires assessing attitude and intention to seek professional psychological help, general characteristics, and utilization of mental health services. The collected data was analysed using IBM SPSS Statistics WIN 24.0 Program.
Results: The mean scores of attitude and intention to seek professional psychological help were 2.83 and 2.75. Intention to seek professional psychological help was higher in participants with religion (t=?1.99, p=.048). There were significant
positive relationships between attitude to seek professional psychological help and help seeking intention (r=.34, p£¼.001).
Conclusion: In order to improve the intention to seek professional psychological help of nursing students, effective intervention strategies that can positively reinforce the attitude to seek professional help should be considered.
